Job Description

 Purpose/Summary:
The Senior Technical Analyst's role is to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain the company's Shipboard applications to support business requirements. This includes writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. The Senior Technical Analyst will be responsible for researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications utilizing best practices in the development life cycle. Training is also a key part of this role to the user community. The Analyst also assists in the development, construction, deployment, and replication of shipboard and office databases related to shipboard applications.
Key Responsibilities:
· Evaluate, install, configure, and deploy new applications, system interfaces, products, and enhancements to existing shipboard applications. Installshield experience is preferred.
· Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
· Assist in the rapid loading of data to support configuration of the Shipboard Management System software.
· Assist in the development, construction, deployment, and replication of shipboard and office databases related to shipboard applications.
· Analyze documentation and technical specifications of application upgrades/enhancements under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
· Assist in the development and maintenance of department manuals, guidelines, and source code.
· Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
· Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
· Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
· Review and analyze existing applications' effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
· Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of application-usage best practices.
· Assist the Shipboard Applications Manager in training end users to operate existing, new, or modified programs.
· Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of software's business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.
· Assist in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation.
· Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications.
· Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of company applications as necessary.
· Design, run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
· Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
· Liaise with vendors for efficient implementation of new software products or systems and for resolution of any adaptation issues.
· Supports company commitment to ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 certification

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· Four-year college degree from an accredited institution with six years software development experience or ten years software development experience.
· A minimum of four years hands-on experience in the Shipboard Applications environment.
· Experience with the AMOS shipboard application suite strongly preferred.
· PowerBuilder programming skills strongly preferred.
Technical Skills and Competencies Required
· Working knowledge of the AMOS architecture and database organization preferred.
· Thorough understanding of Excel, Query, Crystal, SQL, PL/SQL and other business tools.
· Proven experience in the operation and analysis of database, hardware, software, and standards, and data retrieval methodologies.
· Direct, hands-on experience with automated software management tools.
· Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
· Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
· Strong customer-service orientation.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
· Ability to conduct research into application issues and products.
· Highly self-motivated and directed.
· Keen attention to detail.
· Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

· Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
