Purpose/Summary:

 

Individual will be responsible for the overall management of financial reporting for Maersk Line, Limited with diverse lines of business requiring thorough knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards under IFRS. The opinion that the company receives from its independent auditors on the condition of its financial statements is directly impacted by the expertise of the individual in this position.

This position will be accountable for evaluation of existing financial reporting business processes and communication to management regarding areas of improvement to maximize efficiency under extremely tight financial reporting deadlines that will continue to accelerate.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·         Responsible for month end analysis on assigned business units, to include analyzing program results to ensure major business cycles including revenue recognition, accounting for Maersk Line, Limited’s expenditure cycle, and evaluation of accruals and other account valuations are recorded in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.

·         Prepare and interpret key financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flow.  Individual will be required to communicate issues based on their interpretation of financial results to senior management.

·         Responsible for all internal and external financial reporting requirements, to include financial statements and related footnote disclosuresto independent accountants for published audited statements, Tax Package to Maersk, Inc., internal SLT Financial Results report books, Board of Director’s Financial Reports and Asset Impairment Analysis.

·         Research and propose proper accounting treatment on new/proposed accounting standards and on new business transactions including acquisitions. This will require teaming with appropriate parts of the organization to understand and evaluate requirements.  This will include the implementation of any required process changes by coordinating resources from various parts of the Finance Department.

·         Serve as primary liaison with independent auditors during annual financial audit, mid-year review, and interim procedures.  This includes ensuring that all PBC schedules (Prepared by Client) are completed as required, addressing questions raised by the independent auditors during their field work, and updating independent auditors on new accounting issues encountered by organization.

·         Assist with preparation and review of account reconciliations and other ad hoc reporting as needed.

 

·         Supports company commitment to ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 certification

·         Performs other position related duties as specified by management

·         Education and Experience

 

·         Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Accounting Required (must be from an accredited institution)

·         CPA highly preferred

·         Minimum 5 years experience

           

 

·         Technical Skills and Competencies Required

 

  • Proficient use of PeopleSoft ERP system
  • Superior skills using Microsoft Excel and Word including use of Microsoft Excel analytical tools (ex. Pivot Tables)
  • Superior analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize – must be goal oriented
  • Highly motivated; ability to handle above average workload
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong teaming skills are very important to the success of the individual given the need to work with personnel from all areas and levels of the organization
  • Strong understanding of and ability to prepare all three key financial statements
